Positronic Series

Year: 2023
Project: Positronic

Positronic is an ongoing series of generative audiovisual artworks, exploring the complexities of artificial computational brains of the near future. How would an artificial brain from the future look from the inside if we were to record its processing? Could we still comprehend what's going on, and what would the artificial brain actually be doing? Will human ideas still be relevant, or have we found ways to utilise computers in ways unthinkable in current times? These questions are the cornerstone of this project and will drive the series to explore uncharted concepts.

The brain consists of billions of neurons interconnected through synapses. It processes information in parallel, allowing for complex computations and pattern recognition. The brain's processing power is immense, but it operates relatively slowly compared to computers.

Advanced computers, such as supercomputers or high-performance computing clusters, have immense processing power. They can perform trillions of calculations per second, enabling them to handle vast amounts of data and complex algorithms.

The brain's architecture is highly interconnected and decentralized. Neurons communicate with each other through electrochemical signals, forming complex networks. This architecture allows for flexibility, adaptability, and robustness.

Computers have a hierarchical and centralized architecture. They consist of processors, memory units, and input/output systems connected through buses. This architecture enables efficient execution of predefined tasks and algorithms.

The brain can learn from experience, adapt to new situations, and rewire its connections through a process known as neuroplasticity. It can continuously learn and improve its performance over time.

While advanced computers can be programmed to learn from data using techniques such as machine learning and artificial neural networks, they lack the same level of adaptability and self-modification as biological brains.
